DECEMBER 15, 2025 · 1 HOUR 14 MINUTES · HISTORY OF IDEAS CLUB · REVOLUTION OF THOUGHT
How did the claim that God became flesh transform ancient ideas of the human person, moral purpose and religious community?
Episode summary
Christianity emerged from a world shaped by Jewish law, Greek philosophy and Roman political order. This seminar examines the Incarnation as an intellectual revolution: a claim that joined divine transcendence to embodied human life and altered inherited understandings of personhood, moral obligation and salvation.
The conversation follows early Christian thought as it absorbed and reshaped older traditions. It considers the rise of a visible Church, the development of Christian iconography, the language of a personal God and an increasingly interior account of faith and conscience.
